Interior Design to Promote Relaxation

Interior Design to Promote Relaxation

It may be a challenge to find peace and relaxation in life due to our daily activities, which at times, drain our energy. Sometimes promoting relaxation could be just as simple as changing the interior design of your home to channel feelings of balance and harmony once you walk through the door. If your home environment is anything less than your own peaceful sanctuary, you may want to consider the following methods to help promote relaxation in your home and life.

Living room

The living room is where most people spend their time at home, so it’s important to create a clean and relaxing space – not only for you, but for any guests.

To promote relaxation, aim to decorate with natural, simple, furniture. Consider aspects such as furniture placement and use that to create a focal point for the room, and take full advantage of natural light by pulling back the curtains or drapes. Make use of soothing wall paint by incorporating soft, natural colors to help create a more soothing energy in the room. Throw pillows, a blanket ladder against the wall, simple mirrors, and tasteful plants are a great way to add a homey feel without overpowering the relaxed mood.

You can also have Himalaya salt lamps in your living room to neutralize the effects of radiations caused by your electronics, thereby creating a healthy environment. The salt lumps are also a beautiful addition and illuminate your room.

Bedroom

People spend 1/3 of their lives in bed, therefore your bedroom should be a major place to relax and unwind from the day. Use curtains, pillows, and quality bedding arrangements to make your bedroom your own personal oasis. Using plants, candles, rugs, and essential oil diffusers also help create a homey and relaxing atmosphere.

In the ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui, the spatial arrangement of your room should follow a flow of energy or “qi.” Experts say that rooms have a mixture of both negative and positive energy and there must be a balance. Having good Feng Shui in your bedroom helps promote sleep, relaxation, and even helps to bond you with your partner. If you really want to promote relaxation in the bedroom, consider implementing Feng Shui.

Wall colors

Did you know that both color and hue can affect moods, emotions, and even actions? Color Therapy is often used as a method of healing – and studies have found that Blue hues, especially, have been able to invoke feelings of calmness. To maximize relaxation within your home, consider painting the walls peaceful shades of blue, green, or light gray.

You do not need a full-blown renovation to achieve peace and calmness in your home. Make some simple interior design changes to create a happier place you would like to retreat to after a long day’s work.
